David Silva has ended his retirement to sign with Hong Kong Premier League team Sha Tin. The ex-Manchester City player, who stopped playing last year because of a significant knee issue, has agreed to a brief contract with the recently promoted club.

Silva revealed his decision in a video. "I'm so excited to go to Hong Kong and enjoy the local culture, the food in Sha Tin and, of course, football in Hong Kong," he stated. The team announced his signing on social media, noting he will head to Hong Kong shortly to get settled and practice with the squad.

Sha Tin has played four matches so far this season, securing one victory and three defeats, while letting in an average of 2.5 goals each game. They are getting the Spanish star ready for a possible first appearance, which might be on a Sunday in October versus Hong Kong Football Club. Their home games are at a sports ground with a capacity of 2,200 as their primary venue is being updated. Supporters can look at the team's future fixtures for when he is likely to play.

During his time at Manchester City, Silva achieved great success, securing multiple Premier League championships and numerous other trophies over ten years. With Spain, he was part of teams that won international tournaments. A sculpture in his honor is located at City's stadium. The initial league titles he won there occurred while the club was adjudicated to have broken financial regulations, a decision the club is challenging.

His comeback to the sport happens as his old team performs well early this season. Manchester City leads the Premier League standings after winning all their opening matches. Their next important match is an away game against Liverpool in October.

On Thursday, David Silva clarified that his return to football is for a single match only. The 40-year-old told Spanish radio station COPE, "I am surprised because in the end it is only to play one match." He said the offer from Hong Kong's Supreme Sha Tin was for a league game, not a full season. The news comes as his former club, Manchester City, leads the Premier League with 15 points from five wins.
