Erling Haaland remains fully committed to Manchester City and is not concerned by the club's ongoing appeal against a guilty verdict on historic financial charges, his father Alfie has confirmed. The independent commission found City guilty of 114 of 115 Premier League financial rule breaches spanning the nine seasons from 2009/10 to 2017/18.

Manchester City have consistently maintained their innocence and have submitted a formal appeal against the verdict. The club are awaiting the outcome of that process, with potential sanctions including a points deduction or relegation having been speculated upon in the media.

Haaland's unwavering focus

Alfie Haaland stated that his son's mindset is entirely on his performances on the pitch. "Erling thinks about playing as much football as he can and concentrates on that," he said. "I think it's more those of us outside the pitch who think a bit more about it." He added that it would be unfair for this season's squad to be punished for alleged irregularities from many years ago, noting, "The players today had nothing to do with it."

Haaland's focus is reflected in his output, with the striker having scored nine goals in as many Premier League appearances this season. His form is a key reason Manchester City sit second in the table with 21 points from nine games, just three points behind leaders Arsenal.

On-field challenges persist

The off-field uncertainty comes as City's recent form has faltered. They suffered a 1-0 home defeat to Brighton on Saturday, a result that has allowed Arsenal to open up a gap at the top. That loss followed a 2-2 draw with the same opponents in the Carabao Cup just days earlier, part of a recent run of two wins, one draw and two defeats.

Manager Enzo Maresca's side now turn their attention to a trip to face Nottingham Forest on Saturday. Forest currently sit 19th in the table, offering City a chance to return to winning ways. The full schedule ahead can be seen on the club's fixtures page. Alfie Haaland emphasised the need to move on from the Brighton defeat, saying, "They lost their last match, so it's time to get back to winning ways." The club's appeal process continues with no confirmed timeline for a final decision.
