Erling Haaland, Manchester City's star striker, revealed a buzz cut ahead of the Premier League opener against Bournemouth. The change, documented on Instagram and YouTube, surprised teammates and football figures including Pep Guardiola, Jack Grealish, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Noel Gallagher.

New Look

Haaland posted a series of snaps from the barber’s chair, showing the transition from his long blond hair to a sharp buzz cut. In his Instagram captions he wrote, “Short hair, don’t care” and “New season, new trim.” He also uploaded a YouTube video where he explained that he had considered cutting his hair after the World Cup but postponed it because of a busy schedule. He said, “The season starts now so it’s time to get a fresh start.”

Reactions

Pep Guardiola was called by Haaland after the haircut; Guardiola replied, “No way. You’re lucky you have hair, I’d love to have it.” Jack Grealish laughed, calling the new look “about 10 years old.” Zlatan Ibrahimovic was less impressed, telling Haaland, “What the f** did you do? You lost a bet or what?” Noel Gallagher also reacted on FaceTime, joking that the new style made Haaland look “17 years old.”

Haaland will line up against Bournemouth as Enzo Maresca takes the reins at City in the Premier League for the very first time.
