Donnarumma rejects transition talk and backs Man City for great season

Manchester City goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma says the team is not in transition and is focused on competing for all major honours this campaign.

Gianluigi Donnarumma has firmly rejected the idea that Manchester City are in a transition year. The goalkeeper, speaking after the team's perfect start to the Premier League season, insists the club's ambition remains unchanged.

He gave an exclusive interview at the club's training ground days after the dramatic derby win over Manchester United. City currently sit second in the table with 12 points from four matches, having scored eight goals and conceded just two. Squad changes no barrier

The Italian shot-stopper, who has won the league title in five of the last six seasons, was adamant that the club's culture of success has not diminished. “This is who we are. This is our team. This is City,” Donnarumma stated. He highlighted the team's resilience, exemplified by playing with ten men and still securing a 1-0 victory at Old Trafford last weekend.

Erling Haaland scored the controversial winner in that match, taking his tally to four goals in four appearances this term. Phil Foden was sent off in the same game and is currently sidelined alongside Jérémy Doku. Despite these challenges, Donnarumma praised the collective effort. “I loved my team-mates' performance, it was sublime,” he said. “We have the capacity to stay in the game and react to difficult moments.”

The group's task is to maintain standards and drive the team forward.
