Manchester City goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma has been left off the shortlist for the 2026 Yashin Trophy. The nominees for the award, given to the world's best goalkeeper as part of the Ballon d'Or ceremony, were revealed on Tuesday.
Only ten goalkeepers made the cut, and for the first time in three years, Donnarumma's name was absent. The Italian was the reigning holder, having won the trophy in 2025 after helping Paris Saint-Germain win the UEFA Champions League. How did Donnarumma perform for City?
In his first season at the Etihad Stadium, Donnarumma was a consistent presence between the posts. He played 43 matches in all competitions for Pep Guardiola's side. During those appearances, he conceded 41 goals and kept 18 clean sheets. What does this mean for his standing?
Missing the list is a surprise given Donnarumma's recent pedigree. He is one of only two goalkeepers to have won the Yashin Trophy twice, matching Emiliano Martínez's tally. He first won it in 2021 and again last year. His performances were instrumental in PSG's historic European triumph.
